BHPA
Black Heritage Professional Alliance:
The BHPA initiative seeks to advance and represent Black heritage in the broader heritage industry by fostering collaboration, education, and action between the African diaspora and allies. The BHPA aims to deepen understanding of Black history in Canada (and beyond) through interactive workshops, storytelling exhibits, and training sessions focusing on cultural competency, anti-racism, and equitable heritage representation. The event provides a platform for attendees to network with Black historians, heritage professionals, and community leaders, encouraging sustainable partnerships that amplify Black voices. By offering training in cultural sensitivity and opportunities for collaboration on heritage projects, BHPA events equip participants with the knowledge and tools to incorporate Black narratives into mainstream heritage spaces responsibly. Attendees will engage in partnership-building, develop action plans, and make long-term commitments to ensure Black heritage is authentically and prominently represented, aligning to uplift all communities.
The BHPA will occur in Halifax in 2025 at the National Trust for Canada Conference. Stay tuned for more information!
